The event is open to all veterans and service members in surrounding communities, at neighboring colleges and universities, and at Western. Veterans, employers, public and private organizations and community leaders will network to bring awareness to the value of hiring veterans. Employers on hand will be seeking to fill vacancies and internships, and will offer assistance in preparing for employment. Professionals from various organizations and agencies will be available to provide direct services to veterans and service members. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center will be located just behind the Union. Throughout the afternoon, there will be panel discussions with veterans who will share their experiences associated with employment at Western. Another panel made up of student veteran alumni who have successfully transitioned into the workforce will provide information and suggestions from their experiences. Veterans and service members will also be able to connect with the Career Development Center for assistance in translation of skills, resume writing, interviewing techniques, etc. The event is the first of its kind in which the Western Illinois University Veterans Resource Center, Office of Equal Opportunity, and Office of Human Resources are partnering together to enhance employment opportunities for veterans and service members throughout the area.
