Making Words Flow Like Water

This multi-faceted program at the Western Illinois Museum offers a chance to learn and experience the power of verbal expression using storytelling, song, and poetry. Guests are invited to participate in some or all of the activities. The afternoon begins with professional storyteller Brian “Fox” Ellis offering an all-ages one-hour storytelling workshop. At 2:30 he will present one of his own stories, “Captain Henry Detweiller on the Role of Steamboatin’ in the Union Victory,” illustrating the Mississippi River's importance during the Civil War. Following Ellis’s presentation, creative writer, Barbara Lawhorn, will emcee an Open Mic with participants sharing with the audience original poems, stories, and music on the OBOC water theme. Registering to participate in the workshop or to present at the Open Mic is recommended and can be done on the Museum’s website. Refreshments will be available during the afternoon. (201 S. Lafayette, Macomb).
